Questions and answers
The short answers. The documentation has the long ones. Documentation
What is HakiOS?
A port of Apple's open-source Darwin kernel (XNU) to Android phones with a Qualcomm chip: a boot loader, drivers, a configuration system and tools of our own. It is a research project, not a ROM.
Do you ship iOS?
No. No file of iOS is in our repositories or on our servers. The kernel can start the iOS 16.5 user space, which you lay out yourself from the IPSW that Apple's own servers give out.
Which phones does it run on?
The POCO X5 Pro 5G (redwood, Snapdragon 778G), and QEMU on a PC. Another phone needs a port: the documentation's "Port a device" walks through it, and a port starts with every phone driver switched off.
Will it break my phone?
It installs nothing. It runs from RAM and a reboot brings Android back. By default it writes only its own log (a few KB) to the logdump partition; the kernel writes to storage only if you turn that on, and then only to a partition named darwin that you create yourself.
Can I sign in to my Apple ID or use the App Store?
No, and that is not a goal. There is no Secure Enclave, no activation and nothing that makes the phone pass as an iPhone to Apple's services.
Does Metal work? Games?
Metal is started: a device that Metal loads, buffers and shader libraries. Nothing is drawn through it yet. Games that need Metal are far off.
How do I port my phone?
Make a device repository with tools/hakios-device.py new from your phone's own device tree, boot with nothing of the phone's, then bring the drivers in one by one. Each driver is a switch in your device's defconfig.
Is HakiOS affiliated with Apple?
No. It is an independent project, not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc. Apple's names are used only to say what the code works with.
Under what licence is the code?
The changes to XNU are under the Apple Public Source License 2.0, like XNU itself. Everything else is under the licence its file header names.
What is the token?
A community token on BNB Chain. It funds the team; it is not an investment and gives no rights to the software.
How can I help?
Port a device, test on a phone and report what you see, or review a driver. Start with the documentation and the Telegram channel.
